Bombus Crotchii

“Say NO to Canyon Hills”

Save the Verdugos, Save the Bees!

Native almost exclusively to California, Bombus crotchii is an increasingly rare species of bumblebee found only in a narrow range of warm and dry coastal regions where colonies are typically formed in abandoned underground rodent holes. Though a dietary generalist, milkweeds are a favored food source which makes their presence beneficial to monarch butterflies. Due to exploitative human development, the species has experienced a 58% reduction in range and over 90% reduction in population over the last 10 years.

However the presence of Bombus crotchii and their nesting grounds have been discovered in the Verdugo Mountains at the “Canyon Hills” development site—a project that would ultimately lead to the destruction of the bee’s habitat.

NO Canyon Hills is a non-profit advocacy group that was formed as a response to the Canyon Hills development.
